Lyla Noelle Bolyard

Welcome, little lady. You are beautiful. You are a Bolyard. You are a beloved daughter. You are a sister. You are a granddaughter. And you are so much more.

You are an image bearer of God.

That’s a big deal. God has been planning you all along, even before he made the world. He knew you before the seas and the sand and the stars. He did his knitting work on you in your mom’s womb. God was, in a sense, fearful when he made you. Not afraid. No, God is never afraid. But kind of like a master clockmaker who is working on the smallest, most intricate parts of his most precious machine. Body hunched over his work, focusing intently on you. Wonderful work, God does.

It was wonderful for God to give you eyes. You can’t see much now, but soon you’ll see more and more. Mostly you will be seeing your mom’s face and your dad’s face. And that’s good. Because they’ve seen something, somebody, that has changed the way they look. So, yes, look at them.

And then look around at the trees and the sky and the mountains and the rivers and…everything you can see. These things are supposed to get you thinking about God. They are telling, well, more like shouting, how awesome and powerful and creative and good God is.

It was wonderful for God to give you ears. You can’t understand much now, but soon you will. Mostly you will be hearing your mom’s voice and your dad’s voice. That’s good. Because they’ve heard something that has changed the way they talk. And they will tell you. They’ve met someone that they really want you to meet.

Someday, Lyla Noelle, may you meet Jesus with joy.
